About this piece
Demarchelier began photographing at 17 and moved to New York in 1975, working with Vogue and building a portfolio spanning celebrities and supermodels. In 1989, Princess Diana commissioned him to photograph herself with Princes William and Harry, making him the first non‑British official photographer to the Royal Family. He often noted an affinity for photographing women, which he linked to a predominantly male upbringing.
