About this piece
The Intra is a conference chair by Wilkhahn, designed by Phoenix Design for meetings that run long. Wilkhahn’s idea was simple: the more time people spend in meetings, the more they need a chair that keeps them moving.
So the back moves with you as you lean back: a synchronous mechanism that adjusts automatically to your weight is built almost invisibly into the seat shell and the polished aluminium armrests. It looks like a lounge chair but sits like a task chair.
This one is the 295/7, the medium-height back, which is taller than the standard Intra and supports the shoulders. It is in brown leather, with gas-lift seat height adjustment, on a polished aluminium five-star base with castors.
Condition
Ex-showroom. See photos. Leather is a natural material, so variations in grain and colour and a gentle patina from use are part of its character, not defects.

Design Story
Founded in 1907 near Hanover, Wilkhahn began as a traditional furniture manufacturer before evolving into a pioneer of contemporary workplace design. In the decades following World War II, the company embraced modernism and developed a philosophy centered around functionality, movement, and long term quality.
Wilkhahn became especially influential through its focus on ergonomics and dynamic sitting. Rather than designing static office chairs, the company explored how furniture could support natural movement and improve wellbeing during long hours of work. This approach led to innovations like the Wilkhahn ON Chair, whose three dimensional movement system helped redefine modern ergonomic seating.
Unlike many corporate furniture brands, Wilkhahn placed equal importance on engineering and visual restraint. Its furniture often features clean architectural lines, premium materials, and subtle detailing that reflects a distinctly German approach to design: precise, intelligent, and understated.
