While classic kilims are purely woven, pieces from this period often feature raised, decorative stitching layered over geometric, slit-weave designs, creating added texture and detail. Made primarily from hand-spun wool, they incorporate symbolic motifs such as the Elibelinde (fertility figure), protective hooks, the evil eye, and geometric medallions. By the 1980s, these textiles commonly used a mix of natural and early synthetic dyes, resulting in both earthy and slightly brighter tones, and production increasingly shifted from personal or dowry use to decorative and commercial markets, while still preserving their traditional craftsmanship and reversible structure.
