Details

This lamp dates from the earliest period of Harco Loor as a lamp designer when he worked a lot with acrylic glass also known as Plexiglas/Perspex/Lucite. The design is exceptional. The base of the lamp is made of transparent acrylic glass in a fascinating curved design. The two plus and minus wires of the lamp run through this acrylic base but are hardly visible. In fact at first sight you will not even notice these, adding a touch of magic to an already great lamp. Before this lamp Harco Loor made a few lamps with a curly white lamp cord that ran through straight transparent tubes. This lamp can be seen as the evolution of that concept: where initially the wire had to be seen prominently, in this next level lamp it became invisible. The base is purposely slightly tilted, causing the shade on top to slightly tilt over, another great feature that makes this lamp very special. The shade is made of white acrylic glass in a slightly flattened umbrella shape. It has a chromed disc and bolt on top to finish it off. The lamp used to have a Harco Loor sticker label at the beginning of the base but it wore off over time. Of all the early Harco Loor acrylic glass lamps - of which production was at a very small scale to begin with - this one is probably one of the hardest to find. Compared to the somewhat similar Pantella table lamp we also have for sale (see our other listings, if not sold) this Harco Loor lamp is excessively rare. Harco Loor founded his first company in the early 80’s in the Dutch town of Haarlem, later incorporating in 1988 under its current name of Harco Loor Design. His entire life designer Harco Loor has been fascinated by colours, shapes and functionality. He is of the opinion that art without any function isn’t very interesting to most people so he tries to combine these two in all of his lighting designs. In his early years he often expressed his ideas using acrylic glass also known as Plexiglas/Perspex/Lucite for his lamp designs, as the lamp on sale here testifies to perfection. From acrylic glass grew his desire to work with other materials that he could mold to his ideas and started to use stainless steel and aluminium in multi light chandeliers and other types of lamps, using halogen as main light source and combining the steel and aluminum with glass and crystal spheres, shades and ornaments. It is with this combination that his company really started to take off and that he is still known for. He personally shapes each design before it leaves his workshop. From the total range of designs, many are hand made and consequently the design is flexible, allowing room for other measures (length/width) and appearances on request. All lighting fixtures are designed and manufactured in the company's own factory in Haarlem, the Netherlands. The glass parts are sourced from elsewhere. The company employs about 12 employees and its lighting fixtures are being sold in over 50 countries.

The lamp is still fitted with the original cord of 155 cm / 61.02 inches inline switch and original European plug. I am happy to supply the Australian adapter/convertor complimentary. This Harco Loor lamp takes 2 E27 bulbs with screw fitting.

Measurements: Height: 50 cm / 19.68 inches Height of the plexiglas base only: 34 cm / 13.38 inches Diameter of the shade: 48.5 cm / 19.09 inches Maximum width of the foot base: 27 cm / 10.63 inches Weight: 2004 grams. Condition: Very good to excellent. The lamp is in fully original condition Both the transparent base and white shade have light scratches from normal use but no stains, no chips off, no deformations, etc. The base has one visible and slightly tangible patch of about 1.5 cm / 0.59 inches diameter that shows a bit of crackle in the acrylic glass. Possibly it once received a hit there but it looks far from crumbling and not a single chip is off. Bulb holders and wiring have normal age related discoloration but no obvious wear or damage.
