Description: Dating to around 1950, this striking Mid-Century French art glass vase showcases the beautiful sommerso technique, a glassmaking process developed in the twentieth century in which layers of contrasting coloured glass are encased within clear crystal. The term sommerso, meaning "submerged" in Italian, refers to the effect of one colour appearing to float within another, creating remarkable depth and brilliance.
This elegant piece transitions from a rich deep blue base through to vibrant purple tones, producing a captivating play of colour as light passes through the glass. Its sculptural form allows it to be appreciated both as a functional vase and as a stand-alone decorative art glass object.
