About this piece
This vintage Australian made dining suite reflects the Spanish Colonial Revival furniture produced locally during the mid to late twentieth century, combining a substantial timber table with matching high backed chairs. The table is built around a thick rectangular top, twin crossed trestles, an ornamentally shaped stretcher and exposed pegged joinery, while the chairs pair extended timber backs with red patterned upholstery secured by decorative studs. Its strength lies in the suite remaining together, with the repeated chair backs extending the table’s emphatic vertical and horizontal geometry across the room. Dark, prominently grained timber and deliberately substantial construction give the setting an uncompromising presence aligned with romanticised hacienda interiors rather than polite traditional dining furniture. The upholstery shows wear consistent with age. One chair has a small tear that has been professionally mended, with the repair sitting discreetly within the pattern of the tapestry style textile.
