Texas Ware melamine dinner service in the Houndstooth pattern, comprising 66 pieces.
Melamine was introduced in the 1930s and gained broad public uptake after WWII. Texas Ware was produced from 1946 to 1996 by Plastic Manufacturing Co. (PMC) of Oak Cliff, Texas. From 1957 through 1996, PMC was the world's largest maker of moulded melamine dishware. Its innovations included the first two-colour melamine pieces and stacking drink tumblers. Also notable within the Texas Ware range were multicoloured mixing bowls—often called spatter, splatter or speckle ware—made using surplus or reject plastic.
