About this piece
SEA Glasbruk took its name from its three founders, Samuelsson, Ernstsson and Andersson, who bought a small glassworks outside Kosta in 1956 and set up in the shadow of Sweden's grandest glass names. The house answer was charm over grandeur, small, useful, hand-blown things. In the 1970s Bjorn Ramel designed this series for them, a hyacinth-shaped body rolled through splashes of cobalt and green, then set on a thick clear pedestal so the colour appears to float.
It was sold as a candle holder and works as well as a posy vase; the splashes throw blue shadows when lit from within. Both original labels are still on the foot, which after fifty years is its own small miracle. No chips or cracks, just a seed bubble or two from the hot shop, as made. A factory that named itself after three ordinary surnames, still speaking up from the bottom shelf.
