The heart-shaped body is moulded in relief with fruit and leaves suspended from a vine. That vine continues beyond the rim to fold over as an arched carrying handle, with additional foliate detailing where the handle meets the tray on the opposite side. A clear articulation of the period’s form and ornament. J. P. Kayser & Söhne operated in Krefeld, near Cologne, producing a wide range of pewter and silver-plated wares, and is particularly associated with Art Nouveau designs. Dimensions: 30.5 cm W x 28.5 cm D x 13.5 cm H (to top of handle). Condition: Signs of use consistent with age, including faint scratches and pitting.
