Details
This ditty footed bowl was made in the Arts & Crafts taste by the famed maker, Ruskin Pottery. The small round bowl has a splayed foot and has been decorated with a rich peacock effect glaze which is iridescent and beautifully mottled. To the underside of the foot the piece is marked for manufacture by Ruskin and has a date mark for 1922, the beginning of the jazz age. In very good condition throughout the piece presents with no chips or cracks and only some minor wear to the glaze commensurate with age and use. Manufactured near Birmingham, Ruskin Pottery is a perfect example of Arts & Crafts period design, with the pieces designed by Edward R. Taylor and his son William Howson Taylor. Remarkably after Ruskin was closed in the 1930s, William Howson Taylor destroyed his glaze records so that pieces could not be replicated. A really beautiful example of Arts & Crafts design and a very useable object! Marked - 'RUSKIN ENGLAND 1922' Measures - 6.5cm x 10.5cm W
