Details
This really lovely ceramic 'float bowl' was made by the famed Ruskin Pottery. The bowl which is very shallow has been glazed with an iridescent mottled yellow glaze, which has flecks of mottled grey blue throughout. Designed to hold cut flower heads, the bowl could also be purposed to hold fruits such as cherries or lemons, and has the potential to even be used as a serving dish. To the underside the piece is stamped '1924' indicating its year of manufacture, right in the middle of the 'roaring twenties'. The piece presents in very good condition throughout with no apparent chips or cracks and only very minor wear consistent with age and use. Manufactured near Birmingham, Ruskin Pottery is a perfect example of Arts & Crafts period design, with the pieces designed by Edward R. Taylor and his son William Howson Taylor. Remarkably after Ruskin was closed in the 1930s, William Howson Taylor destroyed his glaze records so that pieces could not be replicated. A really gorgeous example of late Arts & Crafts pottery which still has the potential to be used regularly.
