About this piece
A vintage Turkish Oushak, hand woven in Anatolia approximately 70 years ago. Oushak rugs are distinguished by their exploded geometry, oversized motifs specifically placed by the weaver. An all-over scattered floral field, a star motif at its heart embodying themes of birth, peaceful life, and cosmic renewal, framed by a bold teal border. At Tenth Avenue, a blue border is always something we seek out when sourcing. It is one of those details that stops us every time.
At 204 x 314cm this is a room rug. It anchors a living room beneath a sofa and coffee table, or fills a main bedroom with quiet authority. Large enough for a dining room, relaxed enough for a sunroom, study or bedroom.
The pile is worn low and the surface carries the kind of patina that only decades of use can produce. One-of-one.
