Details
This Royal Worcester cabinet plate features a superb floral centrepiece painted by Walter Austin (1891-1971), who was one of Royal Worcester's principal painters in the 1920's and 30's. He left Royal Worcester in 1930, at the height of the Great Depression. The central painting is surrounded by extensive raised gilding to the central pale yellow ground and the green ground of the rim. The plate measures 270 mm (10.5 inches) in diameter and stands 25 mm (1 inch) high. It is in very good condition with just a very slight loss of the gilding, most notably, just below Austin's signature, as shown in the photo. The date mark is for 1926.
