Details

This delightful Ridgway hand painted and gilded porcelain trio is decorated with Ridgway's pattern 2/824 on their Round Embossed shape and comprises a tea cup, a coffee cup and a shared saucer. The gilding has been very delicately done and traces the moulded, raised areas to the outside, with a line of gilding to the inside of the cups. On the outside of the cups, just below the rim, and to the edge of the saucer is a raised, finely moulded lattice work decoration.

The only mark is the pattern number 2/824, which has been painted on the base of all three pieces. Examples are shown in plate 631 of Berthoud's "A Compendium of British Cups", and plates 97-99 of Godden's "Ridgway Porcelains". The condition is excellent, with only a couple of small pieces of grit from the kiln that have settled in the bottom of each cup, to detract from it. The set would date from around 1820.
