Designed by René Prou in France, this complete six piece dining suite comprises four side chairs and two carvers in patinated wrought iron and upholstered seats and backs. Repeated rings, controlled scrollwork, shield form back rails and long bowed legs express Prou’s distinctive Art Deco approach to wrought iron, with the ornament integrated into the construction. The survival of six matched chairs with both carvers gives the suite a significance and rarity that isolated examples cannot reproduce. Acquired from the collection of a high end boutique hire business, the suite carries exceptional Australian provenance through its use at the wedding of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. The height and rhythm of the backs create a formal architectural presence around a dining table, while the aged cream upholstery and darkened iron retain the depth and character of an important period setting.
