Woven in Persia with a silk pile on a cotton foundation, this vintage rug measures 160 x 105 cm, centred on a blue grey medallion set against a cream field.
Fine botanical motifs surround the medallion, and a deep navy border frames the design. The dense, fine weave follows the silk work of the Qom weavers of central Iran, where pile weaving began in the early 1930s. Rugs in this manner borrow and adapt designs from other Persian regions, so they are known less for a single pattern than for the fineness of the knotting. The silk pile has a soft sheen that shifts with the light and the angle you view it from.
Condition is excellent for a vintage piece, with gentle wear consistent with age. The rug has been professionally cleaned, and the edges are bound and secure.
