KNUD FÆRCH for KÄLLEMO, Sweden
Knud Færch was a Danish designer, best known for his Cow Horn chair of 1962. From the late sixties he also worked with Källemo, the Swedish maker in Vaggeryd. Both chairs carry the original gold Källemo label with "Design Knud Færch" printed on it.
The frames are bent beech, cut in long, clean curves that lift the seat and lean the back at an easy angle. Into each one goes a deep cushion of oatmeal wool, channelled into soft rolls, and the arms are simply cognac leather straps slung between the frame. Two more leather straps hold the headrest in place, which is the kind of detail that makes a chair look made rather than manufactured.
Comfortable, honest and unmistakably Scandinavian, and better still as a pair.
