About this piece
If you're looking for a pair of bedside tables which are a little less conventional, or something to go either side of a sofa, this pair of mahogany pedestal cabinets might just be the ticket. Crafted by Irish furniture makers Williams & Gibton who have a storied history the pair date to circa 1840. The company began operation in 1805 as John Mack & Robert Gibton, before various ownership and name changes resulted in the name Williams & Gibton from 1829 through to 1844. The pair are stamped to the inside top of each door 'Williams & Gibton' along with impressed numbers '12491', which are likely a pattern number. Internally the pair each have a fitted shelf and the handles of the pieces twist as a lock mechanism to keep the doors closed. The pedestals have recently been cleaned and touched up by our in house furniture restorer and are in very good overall condition given their 200 year history. A very versatile pair of cabinets are rare in that they have remained together for their entire lifespan, and are ready for their new 21st century custodian.
