About this piece
Bronze charcoal iron from the Qing period, with a bowl-form chamber designed to hold embers. The smooth, flat underside was passed over silk to warm and finish the fabric. Age and use have produced a rich, dark patina that reflects a long working life.
Cast with traditional Qing decorative motifs in repeating spirals and leaf forms, the iron retains its thick, well-cast bronze walls. The wooden handle is later in date yet sympathetic to the piece, allowing it to be handled and understood as a historical object rather than a fragile relic.
Objects of this type sat in the background of textile workshops and court households, and now read as sculptural artefacts with cultural and material depth.
Dimensions: 32 cm L x 12 cm W x 8 cm H
Condition: Excellent, with age-appropriate patina.
