About this piece

This is vintage Mid-Century Tripod chair otherwise referred to as a 'Birthing stool or Milking stool.' These chairs are highly valued today as a piece of art and a sculptural interior design accent.

Constructed out of dark-stained elm wood with a raw, chunky, and primitive look that highlights the natural and rugged texture of the timber. The chair features a distinctively narrow, upright backrest topped with a hand-carved three-leaf clover motif. It sits on three notched, threaded wooden legs that screw directly into the base.

*there is a slight crack in the wood in one of the growth rings at the base of the backrest. Please see last picture.

*interesting history - there is a paper shipping tag attached to the underside showing this was shipped from the Netherlands to Fremantle, W.A. There is no date but historical records point to a post-World War II migrant.
