About this piece
A history of Melbourne told through the lives of some 50 women who built the culture, commerce and community of this city.
Includes women of politics, art, entertainMent, business, science, food, fashion and more.
From Germaine to Panda, from Mietta to Magda, from Vida to Vali. Most have been labelled 'difficult'. All have been denied a public statue.
Each is a pioneer and giant of history.
ABUK (Framed)
The name Abuk is predominantly used in the Dinka culture of South Sudan and is traditionally given to girls. Its meaning is deeply rooted in the Dinka creation myth, where Abuk is the first woman and represents fertility, motherhood, and the source of life.
