A refined and beautifully proportioned Louis XV style jewellery table, crafted in Paris circa 1870 by the celebrated maker Tahan, epitomising the elegance and fluidity of French decorative arts in the second half of the 19th century.
Constructed in finely selected kingwood, the table is distinguished by its striking parquetry top, arranged in a sophisticated geometric pattern that highlights the warmth and depth of the timber. The serpentine outline and graceful cabriole legs lend the piece a sense of movement and lightness, hallmarks of the Louis XV aesthetic.
Superb gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts enrich the form throughout, from the delicately cast apron mount to the scrolling foliate mounts that accent the legs and corners. These finely chased elements provide a luxurious contrast to the crisp precision of the veneer work, demonstrating the high level of artistry associated with Tahan’s workshop.
The single frieze drawer is seamlessly integrated into the design, offering discreet storage while maintaining the table’s elegant silhouette. Every detail has been carefully considered, resulting in a piece that is both practical and visually captivating.
The tabletop opens to reveal a fully fitted interior with dedicated spaces for jewellery or make up. A lift out tray ensures pieces can be stored and accessed appropriately. The interior also features a mirror and highly decorated hinges and escutcheons.
