This outstanding card and games table hails from France circa 1870.
Crafted from walnut and other timbers, this stunning piece was made in the quintessential French Louis XV style. With its graceful cabriole legs and decorative ormolu mounts, this games table can be multifunctional and used as a statement side table.
The top of the table features wondrous marquetry inlays, in stunning floral sprays and motifs with patterned swirls and curls borrowed from the Rococo period. The ebonised timber forms a contrasting backdrop to the lighter timber inlays. It has rounded and curved lines, which have been finished with immaculate ormolu edging. The side panels are also inlaid with marquetry floral decorations – French craftsmanship at its best. The mounts are all gilt and cast beautifully, with cherubs adorning the legs.
The table opens up to reveal a fully felted interior, perfect for that game of cards or checkers. There is hidden storage underneath the tabletop that is perfect for storing game items. At present the table will need to be re-felted for its new owner due to fabric wear. This is included in the price and the customer may have their choice of colours (dark red, blue or green).
A wonderful piece for the living room, or can be used as a decorative side table in an entry or hallway.
