About this piece
Poster from a series created for the Loterie Nationale in France by the team known as Derouet-Lesacq. The design foregrounds simplicity, allowing detailed treatment of the environments depicted across the series. This example promotes the Arts Ménagers, an annual fair of goods for the home.
The French government promoted a nationwide lottery for many years and, during the 1930s, commissioned artist Edgar Derouet to produce many of its posters. Derouet worked either independently or with collaborators; this poster is the result of his collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940.
