Jörg Schmeisser was a leading figure in printmaking, noted for technical command and conceptual depth. He served as Head of Printmaking at the Australian National University School of Art, Canberra, from 1978 to 1996. His practice reflects extensive travels and close observation, and he engaged broadly as a humanist, environmentalist, cultural historian, and explorer. Schmeisser exhibited across Japan, the United States, Europe, and Australia. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of South Australia, and in international collections.
