About this piece
A magnificent and increasingly sought-after Lorraine Glass Propeller bowl, showcasing one of the most successful and elegant interpretations of the famous "propeller" form produced by the Canadian studio.
Founded in Montreal, Lorraine Glass employed skilled European glassmakers whose expertise was deeply rooted in the great Murano glassmaking traditions. This influence is immediately apparent in the fluid lines, sculptural presence and exceptional mastery of colour seen in this piece.
What truly distinguishes this example is the remarkable symmetry of the four sweeping wings. Unlike many freeform glass bowls where the stretched points vary significantly, this piece displays a beautifully balanced and harmonious propeller silhouette, creating a striking visual impact from every angle.
The vivid flame red glass, shifting subtly toward orange in strong light, is suspended above a spectacular clear crystal foot. The heavy sculptural base acts almost like a pedestal, lifting the bowl and allowing light to travel through the clear glass before illuminating the vibrant red upper section. The result is dramatic, refined, and unmistakably mid-century.
At nearly 2.2 kg, this is a substantial artwork rather than a simple decorative bowl. The combination of weight, scale, colour and architectural form makes it an exceptional centrepiece for a coffee table, sideboard, console or display cabinet.
Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs observed. Presents beautifully.
