Details

This large wheel thrown stoneware bowl by Harold Hughan (1893-1987) measures 295 mm in diameter and stands 60 mm high. The centre is decorated with a stylized plant motif in dark brown, enclosed in two concentric circles. The whole piece is glazed with a speckled green/brown glaze over a cream glaze. The back is signed with his painted signature and his impressed rebus HGI, standing for "Hughan Glen Iris", the suburb of Melbourne where he lived. It is in very good condition, and would display equally well as either a centrepice on a table, or as a charger on a stand. It would date from around 1970.
