Hans J. Wegner GE290A
The Hans Wegner GE290A high‑back lounge chair is one of the designer’s most iconic works, celebrated for its sculptural lines, ergonomic comfort, and unmistakable Danish Modern character. Crafted by Getama, Denmark, the GE290A features Wegner’s signature solid oak frame, angled legs, and broad armrests that create both visual presence and structural stability.
This example includes its original sprung cushions, upholstered in a textured fabric that enhances the chair’s warm, organic aesthetic. The tall backrest and integrated head cushion deliver exceptional support, making the GE290A one of Wegner’s most sought‑after lounge chairs for collectors, architects, and design‑led interiors.
A timeless mid‑century classic, the GE290A brings clean Scandinavian lines, quality craftsmanship, and rare vintage authenticity to any modern living space.

Design Story
Born in 1914 in Tønder, Wegner trained as a cabinetmaker before studying design in Copenhagen. That technical background shaped his philosophy for the rest of his career: furniture should be beautiful, functional, and constructed with complete honesty.
During the mid 20th century, Wegner became a central figure of Danish modern design, creating chairs that balanced sculptural elegance with everyday comfort. His most famous work, the Wishbone Chair, became an icon for its flowing organic form and hand woven paper cord seat. Across more than 500 chair designs, Wegner repeatedly explored how minimal structures could still feel warm and human.
Unlike many modernists who embraced industrial aesthetics, Wegner focused deeply on craftsmanship and natural materials. His furniture celebrated visible joints, smooth curves, and the tactile beauty of wood, making each piece feel timeless rather than fashionable.
Today, Hans J. Wegner’s designs remain among the most respected and collected pieces in Scandinavian furniture history. Whether in contemporary homes, luxury interiors, or design museums, his work continues to embody the idea that simplicity, when executed perfectly, can feel almost timeless.
