The copper body of this George III hot water or tea urn, rests on a brass quatrefoil base, and features an ornate brass spigot and copper handles. It is tinned internally and has retained its internal sleeve with its cast iron heating ingot. The urn would have been partially filled with hot water, then the waterproof sleeve inserted and the ingot added to the sleeve. This ingot would have been heated on a range or in the fire before being placed in the urn, thus ensuring that the contents stayed hotter for longer. It stands 490 mm (19.25 inches) high and measures 292 mm (11.5 inches) across the handles. From the back of the urn to the tip of the spigot is 310 mm (12.25 inches). It is in very good condition and would date from around 1790.
