About this piece
When you think of Georg Jensen sterling silver hollowware, this might be one of the top pieces that comes to mind. Crafted from sterling silver this comport is known as model '263B' was first designed by Georg Jensen himself in 1918, while this particular example has post 1945 Jensen hallmarks. The comport features a barley twist style stem and to the underside of the comport is richly adorned with stylised silver grapes. Handcrafted in Denmark, this particular model is still manufactured by Georg Jensen silversmiths today and we understand is entirely handcrafted from start to finish. It is evident throughout the highly polished sections of the comport that it has been hand hammered with the very fine hammer strokes readily visible. To the underside of the base the piece is fully hallmarked for manufacture by Georg Jensen however it is hard to ascertain an exact date of manufacture given that Jensen have used the same hallmark since the end of World War II. The comport presents in very fine overall condition with no apparent areas of note other than the minor abrasions to the surface commensurate with age and use. An absolutely stunning example of Art Nouveau Jensen silver which is begging to be filled with cherries on a Christmas table.
