About this piece
Designed by German design duo Jehs + Laub for Fritz Hansen in 2007, the Space Lounge Chair is a striking sculptural piece that combines architectural form with exceptional comfort.
The design was inspired by the feeling ofsitting within the palm of a hand, with the wide moulded shell wrapping naturally around the sitter. This example features a contrastingwhite lacquered shell with black front upholstery, paired with a black four-star steel base for a bold monochrome finish.
The segmented upholstery follows the geometric lines of the shell while providing a comfortable, supportive seat. Its low profile and distinctive silhouette make the Space Chair equally suited to a residential living area, executive office, reception space or designer lounge.

Design Story
Founded in 1872 in Copenhagen by cabinetmaker Fritz Hansen, the company began as a small woodworking business before becoming a defining force in Danish modernism. Its reputation grew through collaborations with visionary designers who believed furniture should be both functional and beautiful.
The company’s most influential partnership came with Arne Jacobsen, whose designs helped shape the identity of Fritz Hansen in the mid 20th century. Chairs like the Egg Chair, Swan Chair, and Series 7 Chair became icons of Scandinavian design, recognized for their sculptural forms and understated sophistication.
Unlike furniture trends that come and go, Fritz Hansen pieces were designed with longevity in mind. Their aesthetic is quiet rather than extravagant, relying on proportion, materials, and craftsmanship instead of decoration.
Today, Fritz Hansen remains closely associated with refined Nordic interiors, where simplicity and warmth coexist. Its furniture can be found everywhere from luxury hotels and creative offices to carefully curated homes, continuing a legacy that has influenced modern design for more than 150 years.
