Erik Buch designed the OD-61 bar stool for O.D. Møbler in Denmark in the 1960s, and this teak example keeps its genuine original leather seat.
Buch was born in Copenhagen in 1923 and is best known for the Model 49 chair of 1949, with its floating seat. The OD-61, also known as the Model 61, carries the same sculpted, organic lines: a saddle shaped seat that curves to support the sitter and rises to a high point at the back, set on a solid teak frame with splayed legs and a footrest. It was made by O.D. Møbler, the Danish factory originally known as Oddense Maskinsnedkeri, which was renamed in the late 1960s or early 1970s.
The teak has been restored in our Torquay workshop and the leather seat is original. This example is ex display stock, in like new, excellent condition. Oil the teak with a soft, slightly damp cloth, and condition the leather once or twice a year to keep it supple.
The OD-61 was made in two heights. This listing is the bar height version, with a seat about 76 cm from the floor and an overall height of about 84 cm, measuring 36 cm W x 34 cm D. This listing is for one restored stool, priced as each.
The counter height version has a seat about 61 cm from the floor and an overall height of about 69 cm.Further OD-61 stools are available individually or as pairs, in teak, rosewood and black oak, restored to order.
