About this piece
Boulle work—associated with the French cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle—traditionally involves the inlay of tortoiseshell, brass, and pewter into ebony, a technique that gained prominence in the early 18th century.
An applied plaque to the reverse offers provenance to the L.E. Coolidge Carriage Factory, Woodridge, Massachusetts, which was operational from the 1890s to the early 20th century. The piece is likely an American example of boulle work.
Dimensions: 74 cm W x 53 cm D x 131 cm H
Condition: Evidence of earlier restoration, including lacquer over areas of missing brass within the boulle work. No key present for the lock. Overall good condition with minor wear and patina consistent with age and use.
