Details

The handles of this pair of very attractive silver and horn salad servers are decorated with neo-classical laurel wreaths atop fluted, tapering columns, which contrast nicely to the plainness of the spoon and fork. The handles carry the mark 950M which indicates they are were made in Belgium to that countries' 950 parts per thousand silver standard (British sterling silver is 925 parts per thousand). The makers mark is A L below a star and crescent, but I haven't been able to put a name to the mark. Both pieces measure 280 mm (11 inches) in length and the width of the spoon is 45 mm (1.75 inches). Both pieces are in very good condition and would date from around 1900.
