About this piece
Early 20th-century French brown-patinated bronze figure depicting a snake charmer/priestess, executed in the manner of Louis‑Ernest Barrias (1841–1905). The subject is sometimes interpreted as a stylised Cleopatra with the asp.
As noted by the seller, Barrias was a renowned French sculptor of the Beaux‑Arts school and winner of the 1865 Prix de Rome, with Romantic and Art Nouveau influences—qualities reflected here in the flowing lines and decorative detailing. The brown patination accentuates the modelling and gives the piece a refined, period character. At 84 cm in height, the figure has a substantial presence.
Condition: Excellent.
Dimensions: 36 cm W x 16 cm D x 84 cm H.
