About this piece

A restrained domestic object shaped by repetition, weight, and use rather than ornament. Hand-worked on a lathe in the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, this plain turned yellow brass bowl reflects a utilitarian tradition common to North India and the Himalayan region.

Concentric turning lines and a subtle variation at the rim confirm hand production rather than casting, while the yellow brass alloy has softened over time into a warm, settled surface. Made to serve rather than perform, it carries the visual calm of an object that has earned its place through function and longevity.
