Details

This is a hard to find and very impressive genuine Italian mid 19th century Table probably made in or around Florence. it comprises of an inset circular inlaid Pietra Dura top surface in a carved and gilded timber framepositioned on a central column and base.

The circular decoratively carved and gilded table top sits on a profusely and boldly carved gilded centre column and three lower carved and gilded cabriole legs in a tripod formation and all in the opulent and ornate Italian Rococo manner.

The circular inset slate top features an impressive central flower and foliage arrangement and there is an outer banding of six smaller Pietra Dura inlays featuring shells, other varieties of flower and floral arrangements, and a lizard plus more.

Pietra Dura is the art of mosaic where various selected hard stones are cut to shape and fitted so as to form a decorative image and are set into a base material usually black slate. Commesso mosaic as an art form flourished in the later 16th and 17th centuries in Florence.

Condition: Table base is excellent condition for age. The top has had an old repair to cracks to one small section. There are artists that can restore the damaged area of the top back to its original splender.

Size: Width 72cm x Height 85cm.

Price: Was $12,500 as is……now negotiable.

Apart from the extra thumb nail images of this table I have included some examples from some other examples on overseas on line selling sites ( some sold ) so one can compare values and see the huge prices that Pietra Dura top tables command overseas. It makes our table here very inexpensive in comparison and it would not surprise me if an overseas buyer purchases it as it would probably bring twice the price in larger more sophisticated and better antique educated markets.
