A lovely French Louis XVI settee with an oval caned back, carved timber frame and elegant fluted legs. The original cane is framed by carved detailing, while the shaped arms and neoclassical lines give it a refined, understated look. The loose seat cushion and upholstered armrests are finished in a faded coral velvet that pairs beautifully with the aged painted and gilt frame. It’s an easy piece to place in a sitting room, bedroom, dressing room or hallway. There is wear and fading to the upholstery, age-related wear to the painted and gilt finish, and small losses and repairs to the cane back, all consistent with age and use. A classic French piece with beautiful proportions that works just as well in a traditional interior as it does layered into a more eclectic space.
