About this piece

Antique French Art Nouveau ceiling light from the early 1900s, executed in hand-wrought iron with pâte de verre glass. The bowl-shaped central shade sits within a circular iron frame embellished with hand-wrought vine and leaf work, and is suspended from a foliate ceiling rose by four rods detailed with grape leaves.

Lighting configuration comprises four internal globe fittings within the central bowl and four additional fittings on short scrolled arms positioned at the compass points. Each arm carries a stylised bell-shaped glass shade, secured by wrought-iron leaf-motif galleries. One shade is signed Schneider, presumably Charles Schneider, who was born in Germany and later moved to Nice, France, to work at the Daum glassworks.
