French in origin and brought to Australia in already vintage condition by a French immigrant during the 1950s, this chaise has remained within the same family since. The history is strong, but the reason to own it is the design: a long asymmetric silhouette balancing a raised scroll back against an extended low seat, with turned legs, castors and an exposed spindle rail allowing the timber structure to read clearly from every angle. Few antique forms carry this much graphic tension without becoming ornate or heavy. Saturated turquoise silk pushes it even further from expectation, turning a traditional chaise into something bold, strange and completely commanding in a contemporary interior.
