About this piece

French mid-19th-century upright single-door display cabinet/bookcase finished in highly figured Thuya and embellished with carved applied mahogany mouldings. The design carries a strong Louis XV influence, expressed through carved S- and C-scrolls. The cornice is surmounted by a three-sided crown of carved anthemions—a classical Greek motif of radiating petals from a central stem, developed from earlier Egyptian and Asiatic honeysuckle or lotus forms.

The large glazed door opens to an interior with multiple adjustable full-width shelves, each with double reeded edge moulding. Below is a deep, full-width oak-lined drawer with a pull-out slide. The interior, including the shelves and the inside face of the door, is fully polished. Retains its original key.

Condition: Excellent original condition considering age and use.
