This is a very superior quality example of a 19th century genuine antique English mid Victorian period circa 1850 inlaid Walnut serpentine shaped Sewing Table that may also be used as a Lamp and or Occasional Table. The Table is made from solid quality Walnut and the top section is finished in beautifully figured and ‘honey’ coloured Walnut Burl.
The hinged lid once lifted reveals a nicely fitted ‘Satinwood’ compartment with an internal lift lid so as to allow access to the lower storage compartment.
The top lid is of serpentine form with a lamb tongue edge molding and is profusely inlaid with a large central medallion and an outer border both of stylised Satinwood flowers, leaves and vines which is repeated on the underneath side of the lid and is visible when the lid is opened.
The top section is supported on single end positioned well turned columns which are superbly and profusely embellished with fine quality floral and foliate carvings as are the knees of the short forward and rear facing cabriole legs which have French scrolled toes. The upright cylindrical bases with lower inverted finials are connected by a well turned and tapered stretcher. Beneath are the original white porcelain and brass castor assemblies.
This superior quality example is currently in good as is condition commensurate with its age and use however is to be offered with all necessary conservation to the highest professional standards which is included in the price.
