This is a very attractive and fine quality genuine antique English 19th Century mid Victorian Writing BOX of rectangular form with a brass hinged lid which is rolled at both the front edge and also at the rear. These are also known as Lap Desks, Traveling Desks and Writing Slopes.
The interior is very well fitted and the box still has its original embossed and gold tooled velvet writing surface with storage space beneath and ink wells either end of the pen tray.
The box is made by craftsmen and has been finished in selected highly figured imported prestigious Brazilian Rosewood from the Central Americas. It is further embellished with a decorative arrangement of Mother of Pearl to form engraved ‘diamond’ shaped center panels to the front and the lid. The box has quality ,L,shaped brass hinges and a top quality triple tongue lock.
This box is in very good near original condition and is complete with a key.
