About this piece

Set of six genuine George IV English dining chairs in mahogany, attributed to Gillows of Lancashire, a noted 19th-century maker. The design is a recognised Gillows pattern and the chairs are finely crafted from selected Central American mahogany.

The backs are well shaped and waisted, with a serpentine top rail embellished with foliate carving, and a complementary carved waist rail. Seat rails are straight and vertical, with the typical Gillows recessed panels, including to the front corners. Front legs are turned and tapered with profiled turnings and reeded mid sections. Seats are caned, with provision for timber-framed upholstered drop-on seats; alternatively, an upholsterer can produce tie-on cushions.

Condition: Excellent original condition, commensurate with age and use.
