Rare surviving pair that has remained together for almost 200 years. Genuine antique English card tables from the later William IV / early Victorian period, crafted in imported, highly figured Central American Honduran mahogany.
Rectangular, slightly overhanging tops swivel and fold to form compact square tables, revealing cloth-lined playing surfaces with mahogany cross-banded borders. The tops sit above a shaped, decorative frieze carved on three sides and are supported by a well-profiled, turned and carved central column. From the vertical cylindrical base of the column radiate four cabriole legs with carving to the knees and feet, terminating in original all-brass castor assemblies. Carving is detailed and pronounced throughout.
Versatile in use, they may also serve as a matched pair of side tables flanking a fireplace or doorway, as hall tables, placed beneath windows, or as bedside tables.
Condition: Both tables are in excellent order, having been recently and professionally refurbished.
