About this piece
Full of colour and history, this antique Chinese cabinet was sourced from Shanxi and is around 150 years old. Each of its three elm doors is hand painted with a traditional scene on a golden background, framed in soft sage green. Painted pieces like this were treasured in northern Chinese homes and often part of a wedding dowry.
The paintwork has faded and crazed over time, which only adds to its charm. It makes a stunning sideboard or buffet, bringing colour and a real sense of history to a dining or living room.
