Description: An impressive original set of six antique Australian silky oak dining chairs by renowned Brisbane furniture manufacturer Ed. Rosenstengel, comprising four dining chairs and two matching end chairs.
Dating to the early 20th century, these chairs show the quality cabinetmaking and distinctive decorative detailing associated with Rosenstengel furniture, a respected name in Queensland's furniture-manufacturing history.
Constructed in Australian silky oak with a rich, dark stained finish, the chairs feature beautifully carved timber backrests, decorative floral and scrollwork crests, and substantial turned front legs with fluted detailing. The upholstered seats and backrests are finished in a soft grey fabric, complemented by traditional dark decorative upholstery studs.
The set comprises four dining chairs with gently rounded, arched backrests featuring carved shell motifs, plus two end chairs with taller, more rectangular backrests and elaborate carved floral crests. Although the designs differ slightly, all six chairs form an original matching dining suite, sharing consistent timberwork, proportions and decorative features.
The generously padded seats and upholstered backrests provide comfort, while the solid timber frames, turned legs and connecting stretchers reflect the substantial construction characteristic of quality Australian antique furniture.
An increasingly desirable example of early Australian furniture, this original Rosenstengel dining suite would complement a traditional dining room, particularly when paired with an antique silky oak dining table.
