About this piece
Description: A handsome antique Australian cedar hall table featuring two drawers across the front, each fitted with a turned timber knob. The table is supported on finely turned rolling-pin legs, a distinctive feature of early Australian furniture, and has a simple rectangular top and well-balanced proportions.
Australian cedar was highly prized by early cabinetmakers for its rich colour, attractive grain and excellent working qualities, and surviving pieces continue to be sought after by collectors of Australian colonial furniture. The warm tones of the cedar are complemented by the elegant turned legs and understated drawer front, giving this table plenty of character without being overly ornate.
Its slender proportions make it particularly appealing as an entrance or hall table, while the two drawers provide useful storage. Equally suited as a console or occasional table, it is an attractive example of traditional Australian cedar furniture that would sit comfortably alongside both antique and contemporary interiors.
