About this piece
Tall antique Scandinavian long case clock, likely dating to the early 19th century, with a painted timber case finished in soft white with gilt highlights. Designed in the Gustavian and Neoclassical taste, the architectural case features a pierced fretwork crest, dentil moulding, slender column details and gilt foliate decoration surrounding the circular dial. The painted clock face is detailed with Roman numerals and traditional metal hands. The long trunk door retains its key and lock, opening to the original clock cavity. The pendulum and weight are present but currently loose within the case and will require correct installation and setup before use. A small glazed viewing panel sits to the side of the clock hood. The glass appears to be old and has the subtle rippled quality associated with early hand finished glass. Constructed predominantly from pine, with visible age to the timber and evidence of historic woodworm. Wear consistent with considerable age and use, including old woodworm holes, losses and movement to the timber, cracks, surface marks and wear to the later painted and gilt finish as pictured. Please note this clock is decorative and not functioning.
