About this piece
A substantial late 19th century Renaissance Revival armchair with an extensively carved dark timber frame. The tall architectural back is framed by barley twist uprights and pierced foliate carving, crowned by a heraldic style cartouche flanked by carved rampant lions. Further carved lion heads form the arm terminals, with turned supports, barley twist stretchers and small antique castors to the feet. We have had the chair newly upholstered in a monochromatic menagerie velvet featuring horses, lions, birds, snakes and other animals, finished with antique style stud detailing. Antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including marks, rubbing and variations to the timber, with age and wear visible to the frame and castors. Please see photos for condition.
